John Krupa Project is an electric blues rock'n'roll band based in Austin TX. John started  the project in New Orleans, LA  in 2022 and has played throughout Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.  The group plays deep groove, blues-based rock'n'roll, heavily influenced by the Hill Country blues of RL Burnside, Jr Kimborough as well as the Rolling Stones, Black Keys, the Sonics and the Stooges.   John Krupa cut his teeth playing punk rock in Connecticut and Minneapolis, MN in the '90s and since then he's lived on the west coast and continued his journey into the deep south where the roots of American music– rock'n'roll, blues, and soul continue to influence and guide his sound. His punk rock roots are hard to shake though, and continue to add a rawness and edge to the sound of the group. While focussing on writing and recording his original songs, the group also plays carefully selected covers for long shows– deep cuts of  blues, rock'n'roll, soul and funk.  The sound that comes out is a product of the experiences lived.

JKP began gigging since 2022 around New Orleans , Mississippi and Texas. While the primary focus of the prject is the electric three piece, John also plays solo or duo acoustic gigs featuring his National Resonator guitar playing a swath of blues and Americana music.  In April of 2026 the group did a mini tour throughout New Orleans in Mississippi playing gigs at the Clarksdale Juke Joint Festival and the famous Blue Front Cafe in Bentonia, MS.

I am currently booking gigs in Texas, and the surrounding region.  I am flexible and interested in club dates as well as more intimate acoustic performaces.  Please contact me for booking availability!

Review of Tribute single by Buzz-Music:

In an era where music careers are often measured by algorithms, streams, and social media metrics, John Krupa Project’s latest single, “Tribute,” feels like a reminder of why people started making music in the first place.

Based in Austin, Texas, but forged through years spent in New Orleans and across the American South, John Krupa Project pulls from a rich lineage of blues, soul, punk, and rock’n’roll. On “Tribute,” those influences collide in a way that feels both deeply rooted and refreshingly alive. The song draws heavily from the hypnotic pulse of Hill Country blues pioneers like RL Burnside and Mississippi Fred McDowell while injecting enough grit and swagger to satisfy fans of garage rock and classic rock’n’roll alike.

From the opening groove, “Tribute” locks into a relentless rhythm that refuses to let go. Slide guitar lines weave through the mix with purpose, adding texture and soul without ever feeling excessive. Behind the kit, Jordan Krupa delivers a performance that serves as the song’s backbone, creating a driving pulse that feels almost meditative in its repetition.

What makes “Tribute” resonate most isn’t just its musicianship. It’s the story behind it. The track explores the internal contradiction many musicians know all too well: the realization that pursuing music often makes little sense on paper, yet remains impossible to abandon.

Krupa captures that feeling of loading gear into a car, chasing another show, and honoring the generations of artists who built the culture long before streaming platforms existed.

As the song reaches its outro, the arrangement subtly shifts back toward a more traditional Hill Country blues rhythm before fading into the distance. It’s a thoughtful musical gesture that reinforces the song’s central message: this isn’t just another blues-rock track. It’s a salute to the musicians, venues, and communities that kept the groove alive.

“Tribute” doesn’t dwell on nostalgia. Instead, it proves that the spirit of blues and rock’n’roll is still very much alive for those willing to carry it forward.

Review from GonzoOkanagan:

LIFETIME ON THE RUN/  MY BABY TOLD ME TO John Krupa Project (JK Grooves Records)  *** ½

This is the debut single, released as a vinyl 45, from The John Krupa Project.  The blueiest of the two cuts, My Baby Told Me Not To, features the great Jason Ricci on harmonica.  These songs are the blues with a real Stones feel.  The sound is the sum product of experiences lived.

The John Krupa Project is based in New Orleans and includes Maddie Pebble on bass and Brian Wells on drums.  Production is basic, maybe even primal, not surprising from a guy that cut his teeth playing punk back east. but that suits the songs very well. Lifetime On The Run is street level rock & roll that pays  homage to groups like The Faces and The Rolling Stones, featuring some quite tasty slide work from Krupa.  The flipside, My Baby Told Me To is a driving blues with a real Mississippi hill country feel to it, and for my money should be considered the “A” side.  These were recorded last summer in New Orleans and mastered for vinyl for maximum sonic output and sound quality.

Krupa may not be the most proficient singer but he has a certain swagger vocally that suits the tunes very well.  I’d be real interested to hear what The John Krupa Project could if they were to stretch out into a full album; here’s to hoping.
